Fu Juan Steel has spent more than twenty years as the sheet-metal supplier behind semiconductor, medical and PCB equipment makers. As customer drawings started arriving faster and faster, this eighty-person shop decided to hand over the reading of them first.
The quoting queue jams at the very first step
Fu Juan's product range spans stainless and aluminium, running from laser cutting and bending through welded assembly to surface finishing. A dozen or more customer drawings land on the sales desk each day, and an engineer has to read each one for thickness, material, bend count and finishing requirements, then work backwards to the flat length and the hours. “Once you understand the drawing, quoting is quick,” a plant manager says. “The problem is that only a few people can read them.” At peak, a single drawing could eat half a day between arriving and going back out, and rush jobs were absorbed with overtime.
Let the AI turn the drawing into data first
With CADASU in place, an incoming drawing is parsed first: thickness, material, tolerances, bend lines, hole positions and finishing notes are pulled into structured fields, and the system then estimates flat length and operations against the shop's own parameter tables. The engineer's job shifts from reading to confirming, every value carries its source on the drawing, and hovering over it shows which callout it came from.
The same team, taking on more work
Three months in, the lead time to quote a drawing had fallen from roughly four hours to 55 minutes, and rework on material estimates dropped noticeably. “Nobody got faster,” the plant manager says. “We just stopped reading the drawing from scratch every time.” The engineering hours that came back went into harder custom work.
“Drawings used to wait for people; now people wait for drawings. The difference is that we finally get to choose which jobs to take.”
