Precision machiningLow volume, high mix

Jou Ji Co., Ltd.

In a small shop, quoting usually lands on one person, and that person is usually also watching the floor.

The bottleneck in quoting is not the maths, it is remembering

Jou Ji takes low-volume, high-mix work, and a customer sending a dozen drawings at once is normal. The hard part is not pricing, it is deciding whether a drawing has been made before. If it has, the quote is fast and accurate; if not, the hours have to be estimated from nothing. And that judgement lived only in a few people's recollection: what they remembered, they dug out; what they did not, they re-estimated as new. A round of enquiries burned over an hour, and rush jobs could not wait that long.

The whole batch goes in and comes back compared

Now the whole batch goes up at once. CADASU reads each drawing for material, tolerances and process requirements, searches the shop's own history for similar parts, and lays out the old prices, the methods used and the similarity in one table. The person quoting is looking at a list, not a dozen folders.

The same person, handling far more enquiries

Comparing a batch of ten drawings fell from about 65 minutes to 18, and the number of enquiries answered each week grew to nearly three times what it was. “We used to quote when we had a spare moment,” one of the team says. “Now we quote and still have time to watch the machines.”
